Raleigh, NC, Military Defense Lawyers

Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina, often earns a place on lists of top ten places to live in the United States. While the summers are hot and humid, the climate the rest of the year is pleasant, with mild winters and enough rainfall to produce a lush landscape. The city sits on gently rolling hills, and the Neuse River makes its way through northeastern Raleigh. North Carolina State University is in the heart of the city; with more than 34,000 students, it is the largest university in the state’s public university system. In addition, Raleigh is part of the Research Triangle with Durham and Chapel Hill, both homes of major universities. While mainly known for its strong business climate, educational institutions, and cultural attractions, Raleigh also hosts a Military Entrance Processing Station and several recruiting offices.

Raleigh Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS)

Located just north of downtown, Raleigh MEPS processes individuals for induction or enlistment into the armed services. In a process that takes about two days, applicants go through tests and examinations that assess their eligibility to serve. The health examination includes testing of vision and hearing, along with a blood test, urinalysis, and a breathalyzer test. There is also a moral/background examination and the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) exam. Applicants who pass the screening meet with a service liaison counselor to discuss jobs and process the enlistment agreement. A final interview and pre-enlistment briefing follow this. In addition, applicants must be fingerprinted for an FBI background check. The capstone is the administration of the oath of enlistment; family members may attend.

Raleigh MEPS is a unit of the United States Military Entrance Process Command of the Department of Defense, one of 65 MEPS in the United States and the territory of Puerto Rico. Raleigh MEPS is part of the 12th Battalion, Eastern Sector, along with the Baltimore, Beckley, Charlotte, Fort Jackson, and Fort Lee MEPS. Recruiting facilities for the US Army, US Army Physicians, US Air Force Officers, US Air Force Reserve, and the US Navy are located within several miles of Raleigh MEPS.
