Charleston, SC, Military Defense Lawyers

Charleston, SC, enjoys a location along Charleston Harbor, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean; two shipping terminals serve its important commercial shipping industry. The area is also becoming a hub for information technology businesses. A thriving cultural environment with theaters, art galleries, and live music attracts thousands of visitors each year. Travelers arriving at the Charleston International Airport may not realize it is a joint civil-military airport—Charleston Air Force Base, part of Joint Base Charleston, owns and operates the airfield.

In addition, the 437 AW supports US Embassies by supplying humanitarian airlift relief to disaster victims. The 437th Operations Group is responsible for direct delivery, airdrop, and refueling of the C-17 aircraft. Charleston Air Force BaseThe War Department activated Charleston Municipal Airport, now known as Charleston International Airport, as a base in 1942. It returned to civilian status in 1947, but the Cold War ushered in more changes: Charleston Air Force Base was built close by. The base and the airport have shared two intersecting runways ever since. Under Department of Defense orders, Charleston Air Force Base and the Naval Support Activity Charleston were fully operational as Joint Base Charleston in 2010.

Naval Support Activity Charleston (NSA Charleston)Commissioned in 1941, this US Navy base is on the west bank of the Cooper River in Goose Creek, SC. Now a training center, it grew to its current 40 tenant commands, including Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard units. Training units include Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC), the Border Patrol satellite academy, and Nuclear Power Training Unit. Its Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) is the Charleston area’s largest employer.
