Emily Moy
Attorney at Law
Emily Moy has exemplified dedication as a military and federal employment attorney since she joined the Army JAG Corps in February 2013. Throughout her service as a JAG Officer, she has taken on diverse roles, including military prosecutor, operational law attorney, trial defense attorney, legal assistance attorney, labor and employment attorney, and Special Assistant United States Attorney, showcasing her commitment to justice and support for those who serve.
Emily began her career at Fort Lee, Virginia, where she served as a military administrative attorney and a labor and employment attorney. In this capacity, she provided crucial advice on federal labor issues, EEO complaints, and internal investigations. Her dedication led her to be appointed as the Special Assistant United States Attorney at Fort Lee, where she took on the responsibility of prosecuting misdemeanor cases, including DUIs, while collaborating closely with the U.S. Attorneys Office.
After her impactful tour at Fort Lee, Emily embraced the challenge of an overseas assignment in Vicenza, Italy, stepping into the role of trial counsel or military prosecutor. During this time, she passionately prosecuted numerous cases in court-martial and adeptly litigated dozens of separation boards. In this role, she gained a clear understanding of how military prosecutors operate and litigate cases.
With an unwavering commitment to service, Emily embraced her role as a military attorney with Trial Defense Services, where she passionately fought for Soldiers in courts-martial, administrative boards, pretrial confinement reviews, and preliminary hearings. She provided essential advice and counsel to Soldiers facing NJP, summary courts-martial, administrative separation, investigations, and reprimands. Her remarkable courtroom achievements led her to join the esteemed Military Capital Litigation Defense Team. As a defense attorney, Emily litigated over 25 contested courts-martial in one of the most demanding jurisdictions, including a pivotal child murder case where she secured an impressive acquittal rate.
Robert Capovilla, Chief Executive Officer of Capovilla and Williams, praised Emily saying, “She’s a dedicated, hard-fighting, and hard-working federal employment and military defense attorney. During her active duty service, she earned a reputation as one of the finest military defense attorneys in the Army, which is why she was hand-selected for capital defense cases. The JAGC only chooses their very best for that position and that training. Emily is dedicated, passionate, and exceptionally talented. I’m proud to have her on my team.”
